Aliases are a very helpfull, little known tool (to most newcomers) that can make your gameplay just a little easier.
The Alias function can be used to create and bind a shortcut for a set of keystrokes.
This is very helpfull in a number of ways including Festival Times !!
To create an Alias the syntax is :
/alias ;[alias name] [text]
ex. I want an Alias for /dance when I type ;d :
/alias ;d /dance
This creates the Alias (d) which will execute /dance and puts it in my Alias list ! You can view your created aliases with:
/alias list
Now, you can either type ;d to Dance or bind the alias to a quickslot !
Lets get that puppy bound to a Quickslot ..
First thing you need to know is that every Quickslot has a number (right to left):
- Main row : 1-12
- Ctrl row (bar 1) : 13-24
- Alt row (bar 2) : 25-36
- Shift row (bar 3) : 37-48
- Bar 4 : 49-60
- Bar 5 : 61-72
Lets say I have the first slot of Bar 4 open (49) so I'm goin to bind my /dance alias (;d) there then move it to where I want it.
The syntax is:
/shortcut 49 ;d
This will plop an icon for my dance alias (;d) into slot 49 ! Now just click and dance away !!
'But Rai', you say, 'that's all fine and dandy but really, what good is all that?'
Oh, there are a number of things these /alias's help with, take for example the Dance Leaders durring festival time ! You wana learn a new dance but typing the right move fast enuff isn't possable with your 'hunt n' peck' skills? Well then, create a set of /aliases and bind them babies !! Then when the Dance Leader calls out a move .. click, POW ! .. your completed and ready for the next move !!
ex.
- /alias ;d1 /dance1
- /alias ;d2 /dance2
- /alias ;d3 /dance3
and Viola !! now I just bind and organize my new Dance move aliases and I'm off to cut'n a rug !!
There are many uses for aliases, any thing you can think of that uses keystroke. Looking to get your 'Sword Salute' emote? create an alias for /salute, bind it and click your way to a new Emote without typing /salute five times a day! I personally use aliases for many things. Every thing from frequently used chat (i.e. Hiya, morning, afternoon, evening in Kin chat) to general Emotes used in RP'ing alot (i.e. hail, wave, cheer, clap, dances etc.).
This is just a basic overview and quick how-to, Lotro-wiki has an extensive run down
HERE
which will help you if you interested in delving deeper into the uses of Aliases.
Hope this helps you and GL !!
