re: LotRO Plugins/ Skins and there uses in-game
by Sanctions_ on Wed Jan 16, 2013 6:07 pm
Hello Kinnies, I just wanted to take the time to make everyone aware of Plugins/ Skins and there uses in-game. This link: http://www.lotrointerface.com/index.php will take you to a site that holds a wealth of plugins/ skins that can make your lotro experience even better! What are Plugins and Skins you might ask? That is easily answered. A Plugin is a set of Lua Script (approved by Turbine) that allows your UI (User Interface) to show things otherwise not part of the game. For example, I will show you one of my old screenies that has 2 plugins running at the same time, Palantir (Defunct) and Buffbars. As you can see, Buffbars allows me to be able to see my buffs and there CD rate without having to squint at my screen while having my mouse hovered over the little buff thumbnails underneath my vitals. Palantir is also helpful as it puts a set of parenthesis around my toon that shows my morale and power so that I can keep my eyes on the fight and not have to keep darting between looking at my vitals and the mob I'm fighting. Now, a Skin is a little different from a Plugin for the fact that a Skin directly changes the appearance of the action/ hotkey bars of your UI instead of altering or adding to your UI. For example I will show a pic of the Skin called Nui. As you can see, this is what you would call a "Minimalist" UI. All the background pics have been removed to give the action bars a cleaner, less crowded appearance. If you are interested in using Plugins/ Skins please follow the aforementioned link at the top of the post here: http://www.lotrointerface.com/index.php. If you do not know how to install or load Plugins/ Skins, fear not, the website also has a FAQ page: http://www.lotrointerface.com/forums/faq.php. (FYI: The installation of a Plugin walkthrough in the FAQ page is under Installing Lotro Scripts, while the walkthrough for Skins is called Installing Lotro Skins.)

The best plugin I have found is called Hugebag. It turns all of your 6 inventory bags into one large bag, and has an auto sort feature. It can be added as a pop-out on the side or top of the screen. Using this allows you to use the "short" versions of skins, which gets rid of all of the buttons to the left and right of your skill bar.
On a side note, Palantir still works with RoR, you just have to disable it and then re-enable it. It is no longer being updated but all of the features do still work.

Ah, i didnt know about the hugebag plugin! I will have to look that one up. Also, about Palantir, another person has taken to updating the plugin and has simply renamed it Palantir II so if anyone is interested in using it, it is up and running.

This is an excellent thread. Thank you so much! I didn't know about Palantir but it looks so useful. Do you know of any plugins that might be helpful to a healer?

Thamdis' UI :
First, without bags opened:
Then, with bags opened:
The whole UI is changed, examples are here:
I use a bunch of different plugins (most listed above) including:
TitanBar
TonicBars
HugeBag
BuffBars
CombatAnalysis
MinstrelBuff
Palantir II (not shown when out of combat)
GrimsClock
RecipeTracker (not shown, basically it will track any recipe I open, and tell me what character has it allready, and if any character of the specific profession can use it)
The skin I have is one of the JRR Skins Collection, all of the skins in the collection are beautiful.
To use a skin (if you don't know) you basically find the lord of the rings folder in your documents folder and create a folder inside it called UI. Inside the UI folder, create another folder called Skins. Then extract the zip file containing your downloaded skin(s) directly into that skins folder. If you are in LotRO when doing this, you must restart your client.
You can choose a different skin for each character, it's very easy. Open the options and select UI Options. Scroll down until you see Misc - directly under there, you will see a drop down menu with all the skin files you just installed. It's recommended that you re-log your character after you find the skin you would like to be displayed, as graphical glitches are likely until the UI is completely reloaded.
For convenience, I have uploaded the JRR skins collection, titanBar, and HugeBag into the file browser of the Lobby in teamspeak. If you don't want to download them from there, they can be found at LotroInterface.com

Here is Lasherwulf's UI. The skin is from the JRR collection called "Eorlingas Short".
In battle with Pallantir II open, set up to auto-use pots as required.
Hugebag Sidebar open.
Character Screen open.

Is there a plugin that allow you to mass mail on the game, one of my pet hate in the game is trying to mail more than 10 item to a person and having to mail them one at a time instead of doing it once with all my item?

I also use Palantir and Buffbars........I do use two other plugins though, the first is a notepad (to keep some notes in game, really useful!), and the other is a travel panel, to avoid playing a hunter or a warden with an overwhelming number of travel skills on your bars....
(lotropad link: http://www.lotrointerface.com/downloads/info369-Lotropad.html)
(Travel plugin: http://www.lotrointerface.com/downloads/info360-TravelWindow.html)

The LotroPad plugin.....as you can see, I use it right now to keep a list of the emotes I need for special deeds! You can save sections up, and there's the little feather icon at the top left (moveable) to open up that window.

The travel plugin window, a must-have. The suitcase icon at the top-left is moveable, opens up the plugin with many ways to configure the travel icons (and which one shows up). Compatible with rep travels, and also special travels hunters and wardens have.

Hey, Kinnies. Rebra here.
Very informative. The screenshots really help. Thanks.
Now, if I can only get the plugins to load properly so I can use them.....
